Welcome to Mitete District – A Land of Opportunity, Culture, and Natural Beauty
Mitete District, formerly known as Lukulu West, is one of Zambia’s most promising districts in Western Province. Established in 2012, it lies in the northern part of Western Province and shares borders with Kalabo, Lukulu, and Zambezi District in North-Western Province. To the west, Mitete borders the Republic of Angola, and to the south lies the breathtaking Liuwa National Park. With a road distance of about 670 km from Lusaka and 470 km from Mongu, Mitete is a peaceful, naturally rich district covering 6,380 km². Its landscape features vast plains, rivers, swamps, and fertile lowlands—making it an ideal location for agriculture, tourism, and environmental conservation. Mitete is home to over 39,000 people belonging to diverse cultural groups, including the Mbowe, Luvale, Mbumi, Kwandi, Luyana, Mbunda, and many others. The main local languages spoken are Luvale and Kololo (Lozi). Read more...
