Community leaders and residents in Mitete Constituency on 6 May 2026 gathered to witness the handover of K2,793,000.00 in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants to 140 beneficiary clubs, mainly comprising women and youth.
The event marked another significant milestone in the government’s continued efforts to empower vulnerable groups under the New Dawn administration led by President Hakainde Hichilema.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mitete Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Misheck Mutelo expressed pride and gratitude, describing the grants as a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to community development. He said the support being provided through the CDF represents more than just financial assistance, but a practical investment in the livelihoods and future of the people of Mitete.
Hon. Mutelo revealed that since the introduction of the CDF, a total of K11,716,146.96 has been disbursed to various community groups in the constituency. Between 2022 and 2026, the number of beneficiary clubs has risen to 566, reflecting growing community participation and organization.
He noted that the 140 clubs each received K20,000.00, ensuring that beneficiaries were drawn from across all wards of the constituency in a manner that promotes inclusiveness and equal opportunity.
The lawmaker urged recipients to use the funds responsibly and invest in income-generating activities rather than sharing the money among themselves. He emphasized that women and young people remain central to local development, describing them as key players in farming, trading, and innovation.
Hon. Mutelo also assured the public that the selection process was conducted transparently, with each club undergoing careful assessment to guarantee fairness. He added that records of the beneficiaries are available for public scrutiny.
In his closing remarks, the MP encouraged young people to channel their energy into productive ventures, saying that investing in youth is ultimately an investment in the future of the nation.
The handover ceremony was hailed as a major step toward sustainable development in Mitete Constituency, bringing renewed hope and opportunity to many residents.
